Nervous about gastro visit tomorrow! Maybe someone can help me decipher my us report - Liver & Pancreas Disorders Message Board

Hi again-I'm really nervous about my gastro appointment tomorrow morning, and thought I'd post again here before I go. I'm going to give the doctor my us report and see if I need my lesion further investigated, and what his opinion is on it. The report says the following:Liver is normal in echotexture/1.4 cm hypoechoic lesion in right lobe that does not meet us criteria of a simple cyst/consider further evaluation with pre and multiphase post contrast enhanced CT. If anyone has had a similar us report in the past and can give me some info on this, I'd feel less nervous tomorrow morning. All my bloodwork is perfect. After having two cbc's in the last 4 months, my liver enzymes are still in normal range. I mentioned in my first post that I had a lumbar MRI in January, and that report said I just had a tiny liver cyst, with no follow up needed. That's how I found out about this to begin with. I'm really confused about these two completely different test reports, and I'm praying that this turns out to be a simple cyst and nothing more. Doesn't seem like that will be the case. Again, I'll see what my gastro says. So many people on this site has given me great advice and info!! I'm so appreciative. I'm also curious-does anyone know what the heck causes these lesions,tumors and cysts? It seems like there are a lot more women on this board than men that have tumors and lesions, and I'm wondering why that might be. I never smoked,drank,and eat pretty good. Has anyone had a doctor tell them what causes these things to grow and why? I'm just really curious. I will post back tomorrow and let you all know what type of follow up(or not)I need for my lesion after my appointment. Wish me luck!!!

Dawn, your results are very similar to mine. I had an ultrasound that said, "There are three relatively hypoechoic masses in the liver..." I was immediately sent for a CT with contrast as I happened to be in the ER. The CT with contrast will allow them to get a better sense of what type of mass. You will have to drink barium (yummy) before the CT. The report is saying that the masses are not cysts so further tests are needed. There is a good chance that after the CT you may have an MRI with contrast. What they do here is take some pictures with the MRI and then administer a contrast solution via an IV and then take more pictures. Other than the IV it is easy...you get to lay down and hold your breath alot. Sounds like you are heading down the path of some many of us. It is going to take a lot of twists and turns and answers are few. The good news is your lesion is small so it maybe that they want to watch it or they might be able to take it out laprascopically.
