Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction
I have been having bouts of severe pain in my upper right quadrant, directly underneath my ribs for the last six years. The pain is a constant throbbing in the front radiating around my side and into my back with sharp stabbing pain about every 20 minutes. It feels like something is swollen and doesn't have anywhere to swell to because of my rib cage. Typically I get the pain once or twice a year bad enough to put me in the hospital for a couple of days. Everytime I get the pain, bloodwork comes back normal and so do the ultra sounds. Last year, my gall bladder was taken out because it was considered sluggish and didn't empty very well. It was functioning well below normal, somewhere around 9%. The pain came back again after the gall bladder was removed. Another ultra sound was done, and it came back normal was well as all of the bloodwork. The GI specialist did an Endoscopy yesterday, but said everything looked normal and that he doesn't know what it is. I have had the pain this time for 10 days without it letting up. I was watching TV tonight, and on Mystery Diagnosis, a girl age 22 had all of these symptoms, only she had severe vomiting as well. She was diagnosed as having Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction. I was wondering if anyone has been diagnosed with Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction, and if your symptoms match mine at all? I do plan on calling my GI Specialist on Monday, but it is only Saturday right now.
