I know that no one can really tell me anything on a forum. But I was hoping maybe you could share your experience. I had my liver biopsy on Monday and it is now Friday, the doctor who did the biopsy said they would have the results by Wednesday, But they still do not have them. I am worried because it seems to me that if everything was okay, the results would of been back quick, but if they have to find out more, like what it is, it will take longer. Is this generally true. For those of you that have had biopsy, how long did it take to get the results? I am 38 year old female, I have had elevated alt/ast and alk phos since August. Running between 300 to 800. I had an U/S with doppler that showed an enlarged liver. I have had every hepatitis and autoimmune test done, every blood test for liver problems have come back normal. So I am concerned I have cirrhosis or even cancer. Except that it really doesn't seem possible that either of those could happen to ME. But I suppose everyone feels that way.
Thankyou for any answers you can help with,
Jackie
P.S. I also had a normal MRCP no secretin was used.
Re: liver biopsy - how long did your results take?
Hello,
I had a liver biopsy on a tumor on 12/16/2008. I did not hear anything until 12/24/2008. That was after I called. I was told it was benign but am still waiting to get a final diagnoses. I go to the doctor tomorrow for a follow up. The waiting is the hardest. Hang in there. I do not know why they say it takes 48 or 72 hours when you have the procedure. I hope everything is okay.
Re: liver biopsy - how long did your results take?
Well I just wanted to let everyone know I finally got my biopsy results and he said I have pericholangitis or small bile duct PSC. I don't know very much about it he is prescribing actigall and if that doesn't help then steroids. I will see him in 8 weeks if I don't get my PCP to refer me to a liver specialist before.

Sitting on telephone all this week waiting for liver biopsy results, which will bring us either relief or news of cancer taking flights to all parts. Waiting to hear. Can't shake idea that lab results may be sitting on somebody's desk in an in-basket. These folks don't seem sensitive to the truth that while, to them, it's just another piece of paper, to us it's quite possibly a huge turning point in life. Helpful to read in one of these biopsy posts that tests may be collected (slowly) and outsourced; maybe ours is in Bangalore.

Glad you got your results and they were not worse case! I'm 34 and go for a liver biopsy next month and I'm scared to death of cancer or cirrhosis. Hope you are feeling good and that the medications work!

Well I have had 4 liver biopsys in my life and it can be done in hours if rushed.I dont want to worry you buy they generally dont do a liver biopsy without some sort of evidence of a problem. But dont assume anything.I would suggest you go to a gastrointestinal doctor and follow up.
