I have had slightly elevated liver enzymes for well over a year and my doctor wasn't concerned with it. I went to the doctor on 3/8/02 and had bloodwork which showed my enzymes to be even more elevated. My doctor sent me for a sonogram today which showed that I have a 2.8cm mass in the left upper part of my liver, the radiologist feels it's a hepatic adenoma and has suggested I go for a CT scan. My liver was normal size but fatty. My gall bladder was fine as well as my pancrease, spleen and kidneys.

I am obese, having lost almost 30 pounds in the last 2.5 months but I still have a way to go. I was surprised to see my enzymes even more elevated since I'm eating so healthy now and I've lost weight.

Does everyone with a hepatic adenoma have to have surgery?

No not everybody has to have surgery some people never have any symptoms or problems. But the risks are that they can rupture and bleed, which would become a critical situation and it is possible that they can become malignant but the chances of that think are like 1%. The bigger they are the chances of rupture are greater. imkindly directed me to some great links that had alot of information about hepatic adenomas. Try contacting her I can't find the addresses for them. Also, remember that they seem to be related to oral contraceptive use something in oc's like estrogen helps them grow, so it seems you would not want to take anything like that.
