I have had this discomfort for at least 2 years -
now growing worse. Sonagram and blood tests
are within normal ranges.
I was surprised to find so many with the same
problem, i.e. pain under the right rib.
After reading the last post of july 2003 , I am
certain that it is necessary to test for the
possibility of this most common gene disorder.
I am female of European lineage married to a
One doctor said it was gas - another said pulled
I thank this person for the input and will give
the results after tests.
i am amazed to see how many people has the same problem i have this pain for the past 20 yrs now it started when i was pregnant with my first born he is now 21yrs old it is an on and off pain i also had ultrasound and you name it but i strongly believed it must be something to do with your liver or galbladder If i cut all the oil and sugar out of my diet drink a lot of water and NO PAIN believe me. So it can be my liver or galbladder i also got something new for the past 2yrs legs and muscle pain and feeling sometimes just cold within my body so somethings cooking but the doctors find no fault with me and yes i am worried. Does anyone experience the cold fewer i can be how hot it feels my whole body inside is cold i als has a fishy urine smell and just wonder could that pain be renal failure? Has it something to do with your kidneys?
D.Perez, sonograms (or are ultrasounds different...) usually are used for definitive liver evaluations - if an advanced disorder anyway, but I would still ask for specific liver enzyme blood tests and perhaps have your sonogram looked at by a hepatologist (liver specialist).
Peggy2, fishy urine smell may just be an infection. If not allergic, a minimum of a 2 week regimen of Cipro might help. If not that, and you still think liver (I believe we are our own best doctors) ask for liver enzyme blood tests and if they are elevated, get to a hepatologist. Also, if pain is not a damaged muscle from birthing that flares up intermittenly, and if you do have liver troubles, I think sugar is better than sugar substitutes - even aspartame can cause cancer in a damaged liver. I am not affected by sugar and I have ESLD (end stage liver disease) (though oils other than olive oil do seem to be undigestable...ible...whatever).
SzTaylor and peazer, you might ask for bone density tests to rule out osteoporosis (it can hit weakened ribs and hips first), and then look into liver enzyme tests.
