alot would depend upon just the overall real extent of any damage done to your liver and what areas are affected as far as overall functions. the one big thing you really DO need at this point is at least an ultrasound being done on that liver just to really "see' the liver itself and if anything has started to block your portal vein with scarring. its just labs alone will not ever give you the truest picture of how any given organ is really doing. you also need that 'look" inside at it to really put both the bloodwork and that scan together to really gage true damage and what IS possible to regenerate itself over time and with no alcohol either.

the issue with having any bloodwork done to check overall fuctions is that it does take alot of real damage to or affectation of functions to really change any lab numbers. the damage could have started long ago but it is just now reaching that 'threshhold' level where it actually is out of range enough to show itself at all in your labs. do you get what i am saying?

i would seriously ask your doc about referring you for at least an ultrasound at this point to really 'see" that liver itself and to check all bloodflow, espescially that very important portal vein. you just cannot check that bloodflow real well with any other type of basic test. its very easy with just using an US and the doppler tool. you just need that inside look to really show the bigger picture here. i do hope things are not too bad for you at this point. please keep me posted on how things are going. good luck, Marcia
