Hemochromatosis? Sjogren's? - Liver & Pancreas Disorders Message Board

I am having a tough time with my iron levels in my blood. On a 2/18/09
lab test the iron level was 405. On April 1st the level was 471.
I do have Sjogren's syndrome (auto-immune disease) and wondered
if anyone else suffered from the same condition. Of course, my AST and
also the ALT are elevated and I am scheduled to go to UVA in a month.
Can someone tell me what the REALLY DANGEROUS LEVEL OF IRON IS
in someone's blood? The inflammation can lead to liver failure and I am
really concerned. The drs. don't have a clue.! I am 63 WF (non-drinker
and non-smoker)

Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC) and Serum Iron (SI).
Divide the SI by TIBC for percentage of Transferrin Saturation TS. Normal range: 12-45%. The same blood may be used to measure Serum Ferritin. Normal range: 5 to 150.
