Sooooo, It goes like this! Years of pounding beers, and eating like garbage have finaly caught up with me. I wasn't surprised when the ultrasound came back with evidence of a fatty liver, the spleen threw me off a bit, but apparently, the spleen is just doing it's job for a sorry liver. I can face the reality that lifestyle choices and an increase in taking vicodin es over the past 1yr 1/2, probably accellerated an already present condition to a worse one. I don't want to sound like a victim, and I'm not currently hitting my friends up for a portion of their liver just yet. I'm just a little frazzled about the gastro Dr. and his half *** examination of me. Granted he ordered a upper and a lower GI to rule out an additional symptom of mine (Currently addressing one thing at a time
). Here's a quick time line to make it easy to understand the level of frustration and confusion I have.
*pain in upper rt quad starts after a weekend of boozing, and unfortunately a couple of Vics 750/7.5
*Wake up and have a "Come to Jesus Talk" with myself.
*Quit drinking and Vicodin for two weeks still pain.
*See a new Family Dr. Bloodwork urine and ultrasound ordered (4 wks)Palpates liver says feels normal.
*Bloodwork comes back "Normal" AST 23/ALT 38.
*Ultrasound results come back/Nurse says slightly fatty liver "Reverseable" and spleen enlarged, not too concerned.
*Yesterday I see a specialist "Gastro" he like barely touches me, mind you taps 3 times and is says "your liver is twice the size it should be and firm" I ask him, "Based on history ultrasound and labs....Is it possible that I have Cirrhosis?" he nonchalantly responds "It's very likely" and walked out of the room. He did say lose 30bs, no drinking, and retest everything in 3 months.
How did it go from "No worries" to a "very likely" terminal ilness?
I asked around, regarding his bedside manner. The responses were not stellar. I guess I'm just looking for some guidance, and some reassurance.
Currently not drinking, no pills, fruity vegi low-sodi diet, lotsa supplements and water. Thanks gang....this is my first thread so be gentle with me.
