Unhappy blood work results?

i am a 40 year old female.

i just got routine blood work back and everything was totally normal except for:

RBC - 3.41 (3.10-5.10 normal)
MCV - 106.5 (80-100 normal)
MCH - 36.1 (27-33 normal)

Iron - 277 (40-175 normal)

my PCP immediately was concerned that it was alcohol related liver damage - i drink approx. 3-4 drinks a night between 2-4 nights a week, sometimes on the weekends more like 5-7 drinks. she wants a liver ultrasound done as well as a 30 day break from drinking.

i showed the labs to 3 other doctors that don't know each other and they all said that there was no reason to jump to that conclusion and that my lever enzymes were great so that perhaps she was wrong.

i have another appt for a 2nd opinion on monday, but in the meantime i am googling everything and making myself crazy. is her diagnosis/concern reasonable with these results?

Re: blood work results?

If it's not going to cost you too much, why not go ahead with the testing. Alcohol, as much fun as it is, is a poison (toxin) and will take it's toll on our organs, esp. the liver. If you can do 1 month without drinking, it gives your liver a chance to 'recover' and you'll feel better for it. If you, like me, use wine to relax, maybe look at other ways to relax - hot baths, walking, reading, sex - things that are good for us instead of that glass or two of wine. If your test results improve significantly (and the liver heals pretty quick) in a month, then look at maybe limiting your drinking to weekends to give your liver more time to recover in between. At 40, your organs just don't recover as quick as they did at 20. Sigh! I'm nearly 60 and MUCH more limited as to what I can drink now. I won't give up my wine though - grin - but I have cut way back. :-) deb
