Smile Twitching feeling on right side below rib cage

I am new to this board. Not sure if I am posting on the correct board, so please let me know if another board would be more accurate.

For about a month now, I have had this tightness/twitching/tingling discomfort on my right side below my rib cage. It actually feels like the feeling in pregnancy when the baby is kicking, but there is not pain, it is just continuously uncomfortable. Went to my obgyn and had a ultrasound done, not pregnant. Then, was sent for a CT scan of abdomen and they found a small 8mm benign appearing cyst on right kidney and also a small nonobstructing stone also on the right kidney.

I looked at diagrams online and believe this "feeling" is more in my liver area. I believe your kidneys are in the back, I have no pain or discomfort in my back, just front right side. CT scan stated abdomen was normal.

That is what I was left with. But, it has not went away? Wouldn't a CT scan show what is going on if they did this area? Had lots of bloodwork done, all normal. I sapose it is nothing serious, or it would of showed up in the abdominal CT scan? Anyone experience this? Any opinions of what could be going on?

Thank you for reading

Hi Sunset5000 and welcome to the board...

Don't know if this helps, but I've had this same sensation in the past myself.

Tincture of time seemed to work for me. It just went away after a while.

I would think the CT would have picked up most any problem you might be having there.

Let's see if anyone else has any idea what's going on.

Re: Twitching feeling on right side below rib cage

Hi Bill,

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my post. I have been waiting, hoping more people would reply, but I have not seen any.

Now, it is still going on and it is driving me absolutely nuts!!!!! It continues day and night. It has waken me up a few nights ago, a strong twich in my abdomen. When I lay on my left side, it does move to the middle or left side of my abdomen, so think I ruled out the liver and gallbladder. A friend said it could be my nerves or muscle spasms, do you think that could be it?

When it happened with you, had you recently gained weight, if I may politely ask I have gained some, so maybe it is my weight. Don't really think so. Did you ever wonder if it was any medications you were taking at the time? But, why would it just be in the abdomen if it is a side effect of a medication....I wonder?

I appreciate your thoughts.

Re: Twitching feeling on right side below rib cage

No weight gain for me... The only thing I can offer is, if it is a muscle twitching, B-Complex and Magnesium Citrate might help.

My sisters son has a twitch/tick in his eye and she said B-Complex and Mag Citrate calmed it down. Both are rather safe, cheap and easy to try. Get low dose mag citrate (200mg) or cut the pills in half with a pill cutter if all you can find is the 400mg size or it can give you loose bowels.

Some meds (diuretics for one) can cause you to lose mag, and B-complex is supposed to help the nervous system.

Best of Luck to You!

Re: Twitching feeling on right side below rib cage

Omg! I'm not alone! Your symptoms are exactly like mine. All bloodwork came back normal, CT scan is normal (well showed slight calcium build up in both kidneys but specialist says no concerns for kidney stones), X-ray is also normal. Urine is normal and they can't seem to find anything wrong but that tingly tight feeling under my right rib cage around the liver is constant. I've had this for 3 months now and I start to somewhat feel it under my left cage but its mostly on my right. Doc referred me to a general surgeon for "muscle" repair but I have gone to see him. He says it doesn't appear to be organ related. It feels like when I was pregnant and my baby had her foot pressed against my rib cage.
Have you gotten any other updates??

Re: Twitching feeling on right side below rib cage

I'm 24 yrs old and have a child. so my first thought was, that I was pregnant but nope, I'm not. I have a twitching (or movement like from being pregnant) right below my ribs. It does sometimes extend a little lower but mostly right below my ribs to the center right side. I haven't seen a doctor yet. Was trying to avoid the arm & leg of a bill that will come after the visit. Mine although doesn't hurt, just annoying twitching.

Re: Twitching feeling on right side below rib cage

OMG I have the exact same thing as you have described - I have had it for about two or three weeks now. I would also describe it as the sensation when you are pregnant and the baby is kicking - I have taken several pregnancy tests, all have come back negative. I didn't think I was pregnant as I only gave birth 4 months ago and wondered if it was something to do with that.
When I lay down on my left side the twitching sometimes shifts towards the centre of my abdomen but generally it stays on the right hand side and I can even feel movement if I place my hand where it is twitching! It is beginning to annoy me quite a bit although it is not painful in the slightest and it doesn't feel tight or anything - just feels like a muscle spasming... perhaps that's all it is??
Have you recently given birth? I saw a thread where you put about weight gain and I have obviously since I have just had a baby but I have started to lose it and that's when the spasm has started!

Re: Twitching feeling on right side below rib cage

Hi Ladies, I am a 42 year old female and have been going through the same thing since July of this year. Started with pressure under ribs with slight dull pain. Only time that I'm not feeling it is when I'm lying down and anything between 10 minutes to 1hour after waking. Had 2 stomach scans done (one month between them) 1st scan showed that my spleen is enlarged and enlarged liver with fatty deposits. All blood test clear except that my triglyceride were high at 250. 2nd scan showed that my spleen is slightly enlarged (shrank by a 1cm though) and no abnormality noted with the liver??? I also was diagnosed with a missaligned pelvis and tight muscles down the spine and pelvis. Its November now and I have not improved at all. The pressure - tightness radiates from the centre of my stomach bellow my ribs around my flank into the back and up to the shoulder. I don't know if this is muscle related or organ related. Seen my surgeon in *ugus and he suggested that I have a colonoscopy and gastroscopy done but unfortunately still waiting for my medical insurance to approve the procedure. Interested to find out what's new with you ladies

Re: Twitching feeling on right side below rib cage

I have had the same sensations under both sides of my rib cage. I suspect it is parasites because I have found them in my stool. Some are like something I have never seen anywhere before. Got them from rescuing my dog from a swamp. I suspect labs don't know anything about parasites. Not a lot anyone can do, except treat them by yourself, since doctors and labs seem so undereducated when it comes to parasites.

Better to take any specimens to a vet, than a doctor or lab.

Re: Twitching feeling on right side below rib cage

I have the same twitching sensation but it's lower on my right side in my abdomen near where my appendix is. That area is tender to touch, I don't have a fever or severe pain, just that twitching/spasm feeling.
