elevated ALT count / pancreatic cancer concerns

I had a routine blood test done which came back with high count of ALT/AST of 85. Doctor wanted to wait another month before running another test to monitor a trend. Well this time it was even higher at 97.. I ve had a few symtoms that concern me as well.. mild poking pain in chest area (both sides), can't fully inhale, similar poking pain (nothing severe) in abdomen area (mostly right side), and persistent shoulder pain and dirrehea.

I ve done some research, everything it pointing towards Pancreatic cancer symtoms... or I hear a lot of similar cases before getting diagnosed with P/C.

I have a liver ultrasound schedule in 2weeks and I am very scared to face the worst nightmare... I am 38yrs old.. not really in shape(5'6", 188lbs), but otherwise in decent health..I dont have hepatatis of any type, no medications of any kind, havent really exercised in 3yrs, and have a very stressful job working very long hours...

Any comments will be greatly appreciated

Very Concerned,

Re: elevated ALT count / pancreatic cancer concerns

I have the same problem, look at the post i just posted
I am a 24 year old male. I am 5 11 and 196lbs (at the time of blood tests in Sept.).
In September I went to the Dr to get some blood drawn for a physical and all of my results were in normal range with the exception of my ALT liver funtion, which was elevated to 143. I then was referred to a Gastro, who had me do an ultrasound of my liver and everything was normal with the exception of mild fat infiltration. Then had a CT scan that was normal but it showed same with fat infiltration. I have been tested for Hep which was negative, and all other blood tests are normal. (all LFT and literally 50 more or so other tests for Wilsons etc normal). I have totally changed up my lifestyle eating better, exercising more, I weigh 180 now (lost 16lbs!). I am due for a liver biopsy in two weeks. Could this be something like lymphoma or liver cancer, even though the scans were clean? And would something like lymphoma turn up in a biopsy of my liver even though there is no specific part of my liver to biopsy? Below are my ALT levels over the course of Sept-Nov.
9/12/2011 143
9/14/2011 157

I think it could be fatty liver???

Re: elevated ALT count / pancreatic cancer concerns

Hi,

Did you request for liver biopsy after imaging scans or was it Doc's decision? Just wondering if they found something wrong to pursue more tests or is it you not taking any chances.. I am still waiting for ultrasound test.. one more week to go.. hate this waiting game..

I am just scared if these symtoms are coming from seconday liver cancer..they are not severe at all,, just minor intermittent pain you can notice but disappers right away..

Re: elevated ALT count / pancreatic cancer concerns

I am doing it to see if i have fatty liver or nash or somethig else.

Why would it be secondary cancer, do you have cancer in another area... Or are you just concerned as well?

Re: elevated ALT count / pancreatic cancer concerns

I dont think I can have a primary liver cancer because I dont have cirrohis nor hepatatis of any type and am a non drinker so chances are pretty remote.. but my bad eating habits and symptoms & elevated liver enzymes combined can mean a cancer somewhere else like pancrea or stomach and spread.. I m wondering though, if it has spread to liver, wouldnt it show more severe symtoms by now? I am just a lil worried/paranoid/and puzzeled..

Btw, how long did it take for you to get the ultrasound results back? Do they tell you right on the spot?

Re: elevated ALT count / pancreatic cancer concerns

I got them back within a few days. The specialist said it showed up brighter on the scan which means it is fatty. Which can raise enzymes. I wasnt eating right and was only about 15lbs over weight but i carry most of that in my abdomen.

You could have a fatty liver, im freakig out too tho about lymphoma or non tumorous cancers. My mind goes to dark places when i get bad news
