Scared! 194 ALT / 474 AST

I'm a 32 year old normally healthy 6'3/195lb male and had my first physical Monday, i've been having this constant "hangover" feeling even when I didn't drink for weeks at a time... so I figured it best to get checked out.

Everything was perfect EXCEPT my 194 ALT and 474 AST, I *did* drink 10-12 drinks Friday and Saturday night about 30hrs before my blood test. I also started lifting weights the previous week for the first time.

I am not on any nor do I take any medications, the doctor ordered a hepatitus test which we're waiting for results on, but he thinks the AST is still too low to suggest that.

Did drinking previous to the test make the numbers this high? I've never had a health problem before

10 to 12 drinks is ALOT!

What does the doctor think?
The ratio of the AST being double the ALT is not good.

I would abstain from alcohol and retest

Re: Scared! 194 ALT / 474 AST

I am by no means an expert but those are very high numbers. 10 drinks would raise the levels but there would also be other signs, like bilirubin totals being elevated. ten drinks will not raise the level that high without there already being a problem.
I would make an appointment with an digestive disease specialist- they tend to do more blood work such as GGT test and full liver screen.
But if you drink I would not drink for at least a week before the blood test. Since I had my gall-bladder taken out, I have had high levels of bilirubin. I worried for weeks until i went to a specialist. He did blood work that separated direct and indirect bilirubin. The one that shows liver damage was normal.-- that was a load off my mind.

Also do not eat fatty foods days before your test. My doc says he had more false results from fatty foods that he does alcohol.
Good luck and let us know.
