Hi
does any1 on here know how to manage pancreatic pain.
im taking paracetomal and codiene tablets during the day and stronger ones at night.
the day ones dont even touch the pain and the night ones seems to relax me more than anything.
i also had a bit of a fever and headache earlier. my amylase levels were 440 last wed.
had bloods done today so i dont know the result yet.
do yous think the pancreatitis is getting worse maybe.
Im also eating a light diet of soup and potatoes and lots of tea water fluids. everything else causes me intense pain after eating.
im having an endoscopic ultra sound next thurs and im supposed to manage until then. hopefully itll show the cause and i can get it sorted.
any ideas on eating or pain meds.

Most people with pancreatitis get put on nothing by mouth if in hospital with IV's or just clear liquids as anything else stimulates the pancreas to secrete. Stomach acid also stimulates pancreatic secretion, so some people get put on a proton pump inhibitor and/or H2 blocker to reduce acid production in stomach. I would ask your Dr. to give you clear instructions for oral intake, a stronger pain med to take and a PPI. If your levels of amylase are higher today, I would ask about hospitalization for IV fluids and pain control. You would likely get your tests done a lot quicker to find the cause and get it treated.

hi ladybud, thank you for your reply. i was already hospitalised for 5 days. the 1st 2 days they were treating me for my uc even though i told them it the pain wasnt uc related. dumbos.
when i finally saw my gi she took me of solids for 24hrs and my meds. i was on clear liquids and a ppi. i didnt realise the ppi was for the pancreas. a nurse told me it was to protect my stomach because i was using a steroid suppository. what a farce eh?
I asked my Gp what i should do and she advised i eat normally but lightly otherwise id get hypoglycemic. a also asked my gi what to do as the pains still ongoing and its affecting everything and his instructions were to continue on pain meds and get amylase checked twice a week. ive already had an xray, an ultrasound and a ct scan and a gastrocopy and nothing has come up so far.
