Liver, FNH and pain on left side?

Hi All

A little over a year ago I was diagnosted with Focal Nodular Hyperplasia. I have 2 tumors on my liver, one is pretty large, about 11cm and one smaller about 4cm. I went to the doctor becuase I had a achy pain on my right side upper abdomin and after an MRI was diagnosed with FNH. Now, I have been having a dull achy pain on the left side (feel just how my liver pain was). Is it possible that it is my liver causing this on the left side also? I have a doc apt next week with my primary care and an MRI next month with my liver doctor as a follow up. Was just wondering if anyone else has experienced left side achy pain.

Or maybe my pancreas, the achyness is on the upper left abdomin, but if I push in the middle of my upper abdomin it is a sharp pain....

I have a FNH Mass that is 10cm. Being so big it can press against other organs and cause pain. My surgeon suggested to have it removed before it gets even bigger and I'll be having a liver resection in about 3 weeks.

Hi Erica, I have pain on my left side too. I've seen the lump in an MRI and it is where the lump sits. Mine mostly pushes on my stomach and lungs which explains the pain over that side. Have you seen an MRI yourself, really helps to explain what you're feeling.

Hi AtomicDani. I was just reading your post and wondered how the surgery went?

I was diagnosed with an FNH that was 8cm in February 2012. I've started getting discomfort and some shooting pains so the doctors think it may have grown and i'm having a follow up MRI in 2 weeks. The surgeon sais it was already large and thinks it would be best to remove it.

I'm slightly scared of the surgery as I have read about bad complications with liver surgery, so was wondering how you found it.

I hope it all went well and you are recovering well too.

Re: Liver, FNH and pain on left side?

I am about 3 weeks post-op. My surgery went really well and I had no compilations. I was in surgery for about 3 hours and I did not have much blood lost. My recovery is a completely different story. I had a very hard and painful recovery, but that could be due to my surgeons bedside manner and she seemed to not take the time to look at my medical history to see I'm not the healthiest 26 year old. I was out of the hospital in 3 days (though I believe I should have been there at least 4-5 days). It took about 2 weeks for me to start feeling better and I am getting better every day. I am now able to do most things for myself but I am still taking it easy and usually tired. I had a horrible experience at my hospital and it seemed to affect my recovery big time.
I know that a healthy person can handle this surgery very well with the right care. Good luck!
