Anyone with FNH experience pain?

I find that at times my liver hurts enough to hurt right through to my back. If I lean over the wrong way my 'friend' gets stuck under and between the floating ribs and is ouch.
I have another triple phase CT scan later this week or next and see the specialist on the 7th September. He says he has never seen such a large FNH in his whole career but is reluctant to do anything about it unless it grows... so I am wondering does the pain I get every now and again mean that it is growing?

Anyone else have a FNH with pain every now and again?

Re: Anyone with FNH experience pain?

I have FNH roughly 10 x 9 x 6cm. They've told me its not growing so they wont do anything about it.

But yes I get pain. It comes and goes, sometimes very sharp and painful others just a dull ache, can always feel it though, its very uncomfortable. The pain is just under my ribs on both sides (as thats where my lump sits).

My doctor has put me on a pain killers, a type of morphine I think it is. Makes me dizzy though but it does stop the pain but its hard to tell when Ill need to take it as the pain comes and goes. Also I find a heat pack can help.

Re: Anyone with FNH experience pain?

39) I am a 36 year old female and I found out I had a mass on my liver when they were performing gastric bypass on me in 2005. At that point, there was only one and 6.25 cm in size. My gastric bypass doctor was going to cut it out, but didn't feel comfortable doing this because it was covered in veins. I was taking birth control pills at the time and switched to the depo provera because I was told that sometimes birth control is not as effective anymore after that kind of surgery and that deop is more effective. So immediately after surgery, I switched to depo and have been on it ever since.

I have had back pain ever since my surgery and thought that it was from that until last August 2012. I went to the ER with extremely bad back pain, bloating in my ribs and what felt like labor pains in my back. They did another scan and found out that I have gone from one lesion to now having seven. The first one has now grown from 6.25 to 8.3 cm and I have another that is a 4.3 cm and I think the third is like 2.3 cm and the rest are small. I was referred to a digestive specialist in November 2012 who told me that the extremely excruciating back pain was because I needed to build my back muscles and as far as the lesions, that I needed to stop my birth control immediately. This was before he saw my MRI results.

So I left it at that. He made it sound so cut and dried that I've continued to deal with the pain, but no matter what I do, it comes on sitting, standing, sleeping – it doesn't matter. It will wake me in the middle of the night like someone has been boxing me in my right side of my back all night. I get pain in my abdomen from where my liver starts on left side and it radiates to the right where my biggest tumor is. I feel this fullness sometimes so much that I feel like I have a full term baby stuck in the right side of my body between my rib cage and hip. I feel sick on and off and I'm bloating sometimes so bad that I will look pregnant. I feel uncomfortable on the right side under my ribs and it's just annoying. I'm tired all the time and I am so tired of it.

The surgeon I was referred to isn't trying to do surgery and I am so frustrated. I can't take the pain anymore. I thought I was the only one until I started researching this after getting a letter from the the digestive disease doctor I saw a year ago. After a whole almost year he sends a letter saying that after reviewing my MRI, I need a liver biopsy. His medical assistant forgot to send me the letter back in November 2012 and I just received it May 2013. I was just like what?

I started looking it up and that's how I found all of you here. This is not rare and I would like to know if anyone has tried to go after these drug companies or if anyone is interested. I have a daughter who is on birth control now and I'm scared for her. I don't want her to end up like me. This is not rare. There is so many of us out here and they're not listening and not educated on what is truly going on here and they won't, until we as women speak up about these pills and what they are doing to us.

I am so angry. The only warning that was listed on my depo that they highlighted as important was the risk of bone loss, which is very, very minor compared to what is happening to my liver right now. If we just sit here and just keep posting, our voices are not really being heard. I want to speak up for myself and my two daughters. We have to do something. I plan on it and if any of you need my help or want to speak out, post here.

My afp is 6.1, which is borderline. I just had a biopsy few days ago, which I didn't want to do because of the way the procedure was done and the pain after they were finished. I spoke to my surgeon, who just told me that depending on the results of the biopsy, he may not operate which is bull. I can't keep going through this pain and he doesn't think my liver is causing it, so he is making all these other excuses of what it might be, like gallbladder. He checked it and it's normal and my kidneys are normal. Now he is suggesting ulcers, which they would have seen along time ago. There is so much more to my story, it's crazy. He says that he would like to keep monitoring me and continue blood work because he doesn't think it's causing me pain. When I told him about the info on the internet, he got really nasty about it. I guess it's because he is misinformed and doesn't know what he is talking about.

We can make a difference if we work together. So now I am back a square one trying to find a good doctor to understand what the hell I am going through.

Re: Anyone with FNH experience pain?

Hi ,
I'm their with you I had to take birth control sense I was 12 to help regulate my period bcuz I have always been sick but never new why. What makes me so mad was that at that age they noticed I had some thing on my liver yet they didn't do crap about it. So around 24 I went in to my doctor , i thought I was pregnant and test kept coming back negative yet I still thought something was wrong. Well she thought I was about 8 weeks along just feeling my uterus, but after some test, it came back negative and she got worried because of what she felt I had some test done MRI, ultrasound ( the weird part that after those tests what she felt on my uterus was gone ) that's when they saw I had tumors on liver so I didn't get diagnosed till 07 and in 08 I had a biopsy to make sure it was what they diagnosed me with. They were around 3.2cm to 1.2cm and at the time I only had 4 . So they said I was ok . Yet I always got pain . I had to go to ER at the beginning of year for a fever of 104. The doctors couldn't find the reason for it. They end up doing a MRI and found out that my tumors had gotten way bigger . and asked me to see my primary doctor gave me some pills and sent me home. I did and she sent me to a doctor And she was really worried that she ended up sanding me to a liver specialist in Stanford at San Francisco . Well there I found out so much . My tumors have spread on all my liver and they are very big, like the doctor said there fist size. and most of the pain that I have has to do with them which is, swelling of body , bloating , back pain, weight gain, suffocating pain, fevers, numbness, nausea, hot flashes , chills , cold sweats . It really messes with your whole system. One of the one things that worried him was one of my tumors is cutting the circulation to my legs cuz it pressing on one of my main Veins and makes me so tried without any straight . So after all these years I'm finally gonna have surgery to get them out so I had to go through so many doctors to finally find a good one that believes me and is willing to help so don't stop looking and don't give up.

Re: Anyone with FNH experience pain?

Well after reading this I have very mixed emotions. One being I am sorry, you are all in pain. The second being, I am not alone! My tumor was found in 2009. It was 4 cm when it was found vas is now 10 cm (grapefruit size). I had a dull pain on my right side. In November it turned to a sharp pain. The did another MRI. The doctor said it hasn't changed in six months. This doctor looked at me and said I don't know how to help you. Here are some pain meds. ( they are no help) I tired to get another opinion at duke. This dr said called and he didn't think it was my liver. My second opinion appointment request denied. He now thinks it is a gastro issues. I have had an endoscopy and colonoscopy. Both are fine.. I am so tired of being in pain. I just don't know what to do... I am sure it's my tumor causing pain! After reading similar things I no longer feel like I am making up my pain as a doctor suggested.

Re: Anyone with FNH experience pain?

UPDATE*: so today jan 14 I got some news not what I wanted to hear but I guess it's better then none. After going back and having a MRI 3t done ( you should have your doctor request this not like regular MRI, this one goes in to so much detail and can detect stuff better) and having doctor reviewing my results . He has advice that I no longer need the surgery to remove the bigger tumors they have gotten bigger and this the MRI they noticed that I have internal bleeding do to tumors. I will have to have a liver transplant ;( and one of the other things that they found is that I have a mass on one of my kidneys which they are scared that it can be or lead to cancer. So they will have to remove half. They're more worried about this then liver. I'm really sad and scared, just trying to be strong in front of family . I'll be waiting on phone called to set appointments to speak to the people that will going over these things with me I'll post updates .

Re: Anyone with FNH experience pain?

I am so sorry to read of your results Belamuna. Will you get a second opinion or 'happy' with what has been decided? Will you have a biopsy of your kidney first? I hope you get some good news to help offset the bad start to 2014.

Janderson82 I had an ultrasound first in October 2011 then a CT scan a week later that showed the 10 x 6 x 7 cm tumour. I ended up in hospital in January 2012 and had an MRI of my back which showed I needed immediate surgery. Whilst waiting the couple of days for the surgeon to get back from holiday they did an MRI of my liver which showed detail and size and no change. I had another CT of my liver August 2012 which showed no change so they are just doing blood tests yearly and a ct every 2 year. I think it has grown though. I have to take Zantac every day for reflux and I look pregnant. I turn 50 in a week and definitely not pregnant.
I am having more back surgery - this time a L5/S1 fusion - this Friday (Jan 31 2014)
Have you tried Zantac? (Ranitidine 300mg once a day) It has really helped me. Mind you I am on painkillers for my back so although they probably help with my liver pain too I wonder if that is what has caused the apparent growth in size.

VM93 do you have any updates?

Brittanyaus90 we have a 'friend' the same size. Mine is on the left side of my liver (centre of my ribs) and my GP says you can distinctly feel it and gets her medical students to feel it so they know what it is like but I can't tell how to feel it. I just had 8 vials of blood taken in preparation for my surgery this week so when I next see my GP I'll have her print out my results so I can compare them.

My aim once I recover from the surgery is to start on the garcia cambogia I got stung for (The ad clearly stated multiple times that for the trial bottle is was only $7.99 postage - then 2 wks later found my visa card stung $170 and 6 wks later 2 bottles arrived in te mail. Can't get my money back so may as well take the tablets) I want to lose the 20-25 Kg I have gained in the last 2 yrs and get more exercise once I am actually able to walk. What a novelty being able to walk will be. I am having everything crossed and prayed for that this second lot of surgery will be the cure and allow me to use my legs for what they were meant for.

Anyhow I have rambled on .. oh I will also try external stomach massage as well and hope to improve blood circulation in my liver and hopefully you never know my FNH will shrink. Can't help to hope hey!

Re: Anyone with FNH experience pain?

I hope all are doing well... My pain had been creasing in the past few weeks. Sleep is coming very hard to find. I have another endoscopy scheduled for February 4. If they don't find anything with that, then I am not sure. I am so sick of being in pain!

Re: Anyone with FNH experience pain?

Hello everyone,

I was recently diagnosed with FNH. Now that I think about it, I've had pain for a long time (urq), but I had an episode in October 2013 for 3-4 days of constant pain on my right side and back/shouder blade area, pulsating sharp pains with nausea. I thought I was having a gallbladder attack. Went to PCP and they ordered an ultrasound, whic spotted the masses on my right lobe. It's been traumatizing for me since October to now, not really having an answer about these tumors. My left lobe is twice the size that it should be (anyone experience this?), believing it's compensating for right lobes issues. I've had this for years because I've always had odd pain on rib cage. If I sat the wrong way something would poke out o rib area and now I know that it's probably my left lobe of my liver! My Doctor wants to do surgery and I'm petrified. I'm just wondering if they'll keep growing (tumors) and am worried about having such a huge left lobe. My tumors are 7.5x7x7cm and small one is 2.2cm. Any thoughts on surgery vs living with it?

Re: Anyone with FNH experience pain?

just wanted to say I am still here, now just an ache in my ribs under my boob and bloated to look like I am pregnant. I am losing weight everywhere else just not my belly. Breathlessness when I lay down and I keep on yawning. I have a liver review hopefully within the month as it has been 2 years now since my last one.
My back surgery was complicated but that is whole 'nother story.
I wonder if being on increased lyrica and taking panadeine with extra codeine every 8 hours is not helping my liver health in general.
How is everyone?
