Are my liver blood results reason for concern?

I am a 34 year old male and drink quite a lot. Approx. 5 x 330ml bottles beer every other night (90ml alcohol). I am also over weight (not too much) and don't do much exercise. My blood results are worse than last checked at the beginning of the year. Do you think I should get an ultrasound or seek a specialist? GPs just tell me to cut down the drink but I'd like a more accurate diagnosis or other opinions.

Results January:
ALT: 44 (high)
AST: 32
everything else within normal ranges

Results August:
ALT: 58 (high)
AST: 32
Globulin: 23 (low)
everything else within normal ranges

ps. I have been taking one Ibuprofen a day for past week for headaches from a cold.

These numbers are only slightly high. Nothing to be concerned about. It's when the numbers are in the hundreds that you need to be concerned. It could also be a fatty liver. If you're going to drink take Milk Thistle. It will help.

Re: Are my liver blood results reason for concern?

Thanks Berkeley, you have put my mind at ease.

Actually I already take Milk Thistle capsules, but I think I will start taking them daily instead of just when drinking. I also take a complex vitamin B and multivitamin daily too. When I drink more than 80ml in an evening I may also take selenium and/or turmeric and /or L-Glutathione.

Actually after posting this thread I looked at a clinic's website and was surprised to see how cheap it is to get an ultrasound on my liver ($35) so I'll probably give it a try too for extra piece of mind. I'm a smoker too and was astonished to find a chest x-ray is just $15 so I'll do that at the same time. I assumed this sort of thing would of been far more expensive (I'm in the Philippines so maybe its much less here).

Thanks again and I'll report back if and when I get the ultrasound results. I'm pretty sure the outcome will be that I need to alter my lifestyle in some way.

Re: Are my liver blood results reason for concern?

Quick update in case anyones interested:

Had an ultrasound which showed mild fatty liver.
Doc wanted more tests which showed high cholesterol too.
Have been told it is nothing serious at the moment but to quit alcohol and fatty foods and get tested again in a month.
She has put me on a lipid regulating agent for 20 days.
