Some info please

Hi
My friend just got diagnosed with "end stage cirrhosis disease" she has been told that she has 3-4 months to stop drinking all together, try to have a better diet and get her liver as healed as possible for a chance to get a liver transplant.

She was told bluntly by her doctor that if she didnt do this for next 3 months she will basically be dying ((

I'm not altogether sure what this means. Does it mean there may be a chance of living after three months with out a transplant ? Or our the docs trying to give her the best chance to be ready for a transplant? I'm scared she will die.

Also they want to do and endo to look at veins in her stomach, in case they rupture? what does this mean? Sorry I'm being vague but I was not told too much. Some info would really help me.
Thanks
