Pancreas worried

Hello, Ive had what was dx as GERD for 6 yrs. I now know it was my pancreas the whole time.

Four yrs ago my dad died of pan cancer. 6 months after I started to get epigastric pains on my left and was dx with pancreatitis. Ive had it since and have been dx with mild chronic pancreatitis though it doesnt show on scans, just dx due to labs and symptoms.

Ive had over the 4 yrs- 4 EUS, 1 CT and 1 MRCP. All have been normal except 2 yrs ago they saw an incomplete divisum-basically a branch not connected. Im worried it was actually a lesion that they saw. I dont understand why else they never saw it, though drs said because they are hard to see. My symptoms come and go. Lately they have been worse. Stabbing upper back pain (matches upper left pain) and soft stools every am.

Im terrified its Pan Cancer that is going undetected. I did have a CA 19 drawn when it all started and it was slightly elevated but drs said due to inflammation-it was back in normal range 2 yrs later.

Any feedback appreciated

Re: Pancreas worried

Hi k2626, I post a lot of how high iron can inflame the liver and pancreas on this forum and I don't wish to sound like a broken record, but have you had a full iron study done?

I see from your post you are female... If your still menstruating high iron shouldn't be a problem for you unless you are taking iron supplements or "women's vitamins" with iron. If you are, I would consider stopping the iron unless you have a recent positive diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia.

Polyunsaturated fats can also cause problems with lipid peroxidation in the pancreas... If you're taking fish oil or flax etc polyunsaturated supplements, this can also cause problems. If you do consume large amounts of polyunsaturated fats/oils you need a lot of vitamin-E to keep these from oxidizing.

Vitamin-E and Lecithin are the two supplements most often mentioned as helpful with lipid peroxidation and problems with the pancreas. Have you looked into these?

I'm not a doctor, so ask yours about these issues, and best of luck to you!
