In a routine blood work,i had raised alt 54,ast 41,i used to drink two beers 2-3 times a week. i stopped drinking and it has come down to alt 36,ast 25,ultrasound showed a mild fatty infiltration of the liver,im over wieght by about 5 kg with a bmi 25.8 and im 67 years old,i have not had a repeat ultra sound. i have no symptoms,can i take one beer in a fortnight or so,is that going to be ok ? guidance shall be highly appreciated.

I'm older than you have I end each day with at least two drinks and I don't have a problem with either ALT or AST. However, I eat incredibly healthy and each day I take an all natural supplement. You may want to consider each morning before breakfast drinking a glass of water with fresh squeezed lemon juice. If you can find liquid Milk Thistle in your country add 30 drops to your water and lemon juice.

Your original numbers of 54 & 41 were only very slightly elevated and not considered a serious problem. No need to deprive yourself of a drink each day.
