| Hepatitis, Ascites and alchool intake
Hi guys,
My father in law has Hepatitis C and cirrhosis, ascites, generalized pitting edema, stage four chronic heart failure, thrombosis and type II diabetes. He virtually looks like a balloon, hasn't been able to move for the past 4 months and his body is leaking fluid (through the skin). As I see it, he's on his death bed.
He was an alcoholic and we thought he had quit. But recently, he started asking for alcohol again, namely Martini-15% alcohol, besides the fact that he respects no diet and eats and drinks whatever he feels like (he leaves with his elderly mother who is so scared of him that she gives in to his every demand): sweets, pork, soda drinks, salty foods at al. He also started smoking again after about two months of quitting, even though the uses an oxygen provider.
Grandma insists on giving him some alcohol because he is hysterical, but I really do not want to end up killing him.
We did our best, tried to explain to him that he would die, we hid and threw everything around the house, but grandma keeps on buying and feeding him everything.
He's also partially self medicating with certain antibiotics. We throw them away, but then grandma buys more.
I really don't know what to do. No hospital accepts him as his conditions are terminal. This means that he's at home and everything is hectic while my husband and I are at work. There are no nursing homes available in our area, no long term medical facilities, just the regional and some smaller hospitals.
I really don't know what to do. We are aware of the fact that he can pass away any moment, but by all means, I do not want to do anything that makes his condition worse or even more than that.
Thank you for your help.
