Pain/swollen feeling under left ribcage!

Hi everyone I didn't know where to post this.. But I'll try to start here. About me: 28 female healthy fit. No known health problems.

I started getting pain under my left ribs maybe a month and a half ago that would come and go and wasn't super alarming so I ignored it. Then about a two weeks ago I started getting the pain again and what feels internally like swelling on that side-- can't feel it from outside. I thought maybe it had to go with me doing "insanity" that at home boot camp workout but I'm feeling cramping on occasion in my upper left abdomen and also upper abdomen on the left side near the bottom where my ribs meet on my chest. I feel a bit uncomfortable at night as well.

Anyone know what this could be? The cramping randomly happens in the middle of the night, when I was drinking wine, and just now after eating just plain oats.

I tend to be a bit of a hypochondriac so I wanted to see if this would just go away. Anyone experience something similar?

I think since it has been going on for awhile that you should see your Dr and make sure your spleen is not enlarged. The spleen breaks down blood cells, so a blood count would be helpful to do also. Sometimes pancreatic pain is felt on left, and pancreatic enzymes could be checked at same time. Be sure to tell Dr any related symptoms that started at same time to get a full picture.

Thank you Ladybud.. I had my blood checked at end of Nov..showed no anemia- everything fine..
Could it just be muscular too perhaps? I'm trying to not think worst case scenario. My dad had NHLymphoma and died from it 4 years ago and I'm super traumatized.

Re: Pain/swollen feeling under left ribcage!

I understand your concern! My Mom had NHL about 3 years ago. She was stage 3 at diagnosis but responded well to chemo and is doing fine now. I'm sorry about your Dad. It does make one worry about one's own health after going through an experience like that. I doubt it is musculoskeletal because of the nighttime pain and association with eating. I would see your Dr. and get some tests done to check out your stomach, pancreas and spleen, general GI tract.

Hello, I have very similar symptoms to the ones described and I am quite worried. Did you ever find out what caused them? Do you still have the pain etc.

I had an ultrasound and nothing was found..then it just went away. Have you had an ultrasound?

I have a feeling maybe it was just a weird stress/exercise thing.
