Yes you can get emphysema and lung cancer from smoking pot and a a few other things as well. As for how long do you have to smoke to get it, anyones guess, some people smoke cigs for 50 yrs and don't get emphysema or cancer and I know of one gal who smoked only 11 yrs and died of lung cancer. My ex quit cigs but stayed with pot and he has a murid of problems as anyone who smokes cigs. The genes play a part in that as well. Some people are prone to get it and some aren't. It would be best if he saw his Dr and get it checked out to be on the safe side.
