I am 17 years old and have been smoking cigarette since the age of 13. I am really fragile to the side-effects, my lungs make these weird noises (don't really know the word, bad english) every morning and I usually spit mucus. About 2 weeks ago, blood came out with it. Same goes for this morning. Now I know that this is normal, because of the simple fact that smoking is BAD and that im kinda fragile on that... but im still only 17 and have no background of asthma at all.
I had stopped last summer because I was going to the gym and it helped alot... unfortunetaly I got an injury, lumbar (spelling?) distorsion, and I couldn't go anymore. The urge to smoke came back...
What I basically want to know, is; what is exactly causing that? Alot of people around me have been smoking forever and never 1)caugh up stuff and 2)with blood!. So what is this exactly all about? I might be anxious for nothing since it happened only 2 times but hey, it's better to take care of stuff before it gets worse...
Thanks
Edit; The fact that it didn't hurt (when blood came out and all) is kinda annoying me a bit too! |
By saying your lungs make weird noises, what do you mean? Do they make a high pitched sound (wheezing)? Or do they make crackling noises (rales/rhonchi)? When you cough up mucus, what color is it? An albuterol inhaler or even Advair may be right for you; some people are diagnosed with bronchial asthma after smoking for a while.
That's great that you quit for a while. I'm sorry to hear that you started again after being injured.

Perhaps you could do a low-impact sport such as swimming for a while?
What exactly is causing is causing the blood in your mucus? Well, the most common cause of blood tinged mucus is a ruptured small blood vessel caused by coughing or a mild infection - not too serious, but since you do smoke, get it checked out. You never mentioned how much blood you coughed up; I'm just imagining that it's a small amount, because you probably would have choked to death by now on a serious hemoptysis (blood in the sputum).
To sum this all up, just get it checked out by a regular doctor. I doubt it's anything serious, maybe just a lingering infection after a cold or something.
