Chest pain from bronchitis? - Lung & Respiratory Disorders / COPD Message Board

Have an embarrassing question that is probably pretty obvious but here it is. I was just recently diagnosed w/ acute bronchitis. Its been about a week now and I feel a little better. Phelm and fatigue/fever is gone. Coughing is down to a minimum. However, I have noticed some chest pain in the area of my heart that last for a few seconds and may return later. It doesn't come on when I cough. Its been in two different spots, once by my sternum and once under my breast area. I have pressed on the spots when and it is not tender to the touch. Is it safe to assume that this pain is caused from the excessive coughing I have been doing from the bronchitis? I am 32yrs old and in decent shape.

I had pneumonia and ended up with symptoms like yours. Mine was a little worse when I inhaled and it ended up being pleurisy. It wouldn't hurt to have a doctor listen to your chest as a follow-up. They can actually hear pleurisy (kind of a raspy sound) if that is it.
And even if it's something else a doctor would be able to do a good job of figuring out what your chest pain is from!

Always check with your physician if you have chest pain! That said, I think you are on the right track, assuming the pains you're experiencing are from coughing. It's very common. My pulmonologist told me that my pains (which actually sound very similar) are more from age than from anything (since I hadn't been coughing). They're sharp and they will take your breath, but they're fleeting.
