Hi, I'm new here. 32 yrs old, and for years I have had a recurrent problem with chest pain. It is not predictable, it does not occur after strenous activity, in fact, it usually occurs when I am doing hardly anything at all.
I will be sitting or laying down and all of a sudden the left side of my chest will have a sharp, stabbing pain and i cannot take any kind of breath other than VERY shallow. If I try to breathe deep it's like I'm encountering a painful, stabbing knot. The stabbing pain is very localized, however it will radiate up towards my neck and into my back. It usually only lasts for 3-5 minutes, but in that time period I am completely immobile. I would say it happens about once or twice a year, and again, completely unpredictable. Once it happened as I was reaching up to put something on the shelf in my closet and it knocked me flat on my back onto my bed. the most recent occurrence I had just gotten into bed for the evening.
I've been trying to find information about this, but all that I've found talks about the pain lasting for a longer period of time. Is this something I should be concerned about? Have any of you ever experienced this?
I also experience chest tightening on occasion, where it feels like someone is sitting on my chest, and this heaviness envelopes my chest, my left shoulder and down my left arm, and into my neck. The last episode I had lasted a good 20 minutes, I was about ready to call for help! Again, this is infrequent, usually occurs while I'm in a resting state, but very scary when it's happening.
Can someone please assure me that I'm normal
Thanks!
Karen
