Prognosis of BOOP?

My Dad has BOOP and we are wondering how long is the typical recovery period. I've heard a very wide range. He's on the prednisone now (very high doses) and has no energy to do anything. Any tricks/suggestions and info would be most appreciated.

Re: Prognosis of BOOP?

I have been diagnosed with BOOP myself in Jan 04, was treated with steriods from Jan 04 to Aug 05, It has resurfaced Jan 06 and I am again on steriods. Otherwise health 48 year old woman. How old is your dad? Several kinds of BOOP, were they able to specify his? Mine is idiopathic, no known cause. Looking for others out there. THanks

Re: Prognosis of BOOP?

I was just diagnosed with boop also. I am having a hard time understanding what the real prognosis is. Is it a life long illness? will it limit my lifespan? will it lead to more serious ILDs? These are some of the questions i would like to get answers for. Boop lady How well did you feel when your boop is in remission?

ASC99YS How long has your dad been dealing with boop and what dosages? Is his boop related to anything else?

I am still on steriods (now since 1/07) down to 5mg daily. I stopped having "serious" side effects when I got down to about 15 mg, chest fluttering, not being able to sleep, nausea, stuff like that. I don't have a lot of answers about a prognosis of BOOP and it appears neither does the medical community. It can come once or return many times during your lifespan. It also seems that long term lung damage(scarring) is based upon how many recurrences you have. We should live forever, but will we need lung transplants further down the road, is a question. I have gained some weight, but at least my energy has maintained.

Re: Prognosis of BOOP?

Hi...I became sick in 2/06. After alot of tests, BOOP was diagnosed. I did the Prednisone thing ( I was up to 60mg) and will never take them again. I never went back to work as a Paramedic and am now awaiting Social Security Disability. My lungs never fully recovered. My last PFT showed only 45% in small airways and 55% in large. I cant walk for long periods and can hardley perform everyday functions. I am on my second Pulmonoligist and might be seeking a third. The medical community surely does not have a clue as far as I can tell. On top of the BOOP I have been an Asthmatic for my whole life. Now 36 I wonder what is next. But I never give up!!
