can sleeping in a cold and damp basement for a prolonged period of time affect my respiratory health? i am asking this because i've noticed that lately, my chest gets congested whenever I spend a long time down there. I wake up in the morning with a dry throat and sniffles. i'm breathing in cold air at night, and although it hasn't bothered me before, I think its effects are finally catching up to me. sometimes it gets so cold that I have to sleep with the covers over my head to deflect the cold air.
my basement is finished, there are no exposed pipes or cement floors. but the air is slightly damp and it can sometimes get really cold. due to my living arrangements I have to sleep there. is there anything I can do to make the room more tolerable? should I buy a heater? dehumidifier? I'll move out if I have to, but I'd like to stay down there as long as my health doesn't suffer. any advise would be very appreciated.
