On 4/21/07 I was admitted to the hospital for bilateral pulmonary emboli and a pleural effusion around my left lung. I spent 5 days in the hospital. I ended up back in the ER this past Friday with pains in my left lung and another CT was done. During this recent CT scan a pulmonary infarction was noted to the lower lobe of my left lung.

Is it normal for an infarction to cause pain? What is the treatment for this? It's my understanding that this is permanent dead tissue so will it be beneficial to go in and surgically remove it? I have no idea what to expect and if this will cause me discomfort/pain the rest of my life or if the pain I'm feeling now is a result of the emboli I am healing from.

I should mention, during my hospital stay on 4/21 I tested positive a clotting disorder (Factor V Leiden [Heterozygous])
