broken rib caused punctured lung

Hello,

I have a question - a friend of mine, he broke his rib which punctured his lung.
He still comes into work everyday and I think he should have a rest.
He takes quite strong painkillers I think.
It has been only 2 weeks since his injury. I was wondering how much it hurts and how long it will take for recovery. Can he do anything to help speed up the recovery?

I would be happy to hear your opinions about this.
Lilly.

Re: broken rib caused punctured lung

I'm assuming he saw a doctor for his broken rib and was told the lung was punctured? A small puncture may heal on its own, but a large one can become a medical emergency. If the puncture is large, air can escape from the lung and go into the chest cavity, and it has nowhere to go from there. If it's already been a couple of weeks, he's probably not in danger, but if he should suddenly become short of breath, get help for him right away.

I hope he has a desk job and isn't doing any heavy lifting.

Glad you're looking out for him.
