Long Term effects of Mycrobacterium Avium Virus

I was diagnosed with the virus and believe I still have it after over two years. Each time I get a cold the virus seems to re-activate.
What are some known long term effects.....

Re: Long Term effects of Mycrobacterium Avium Virus

Brightsmarties,
Are you under treatment?.. If so, Have they done sputum testing to see if the MAC is still active? My understanding with all this, and mind you Im new to all this also is, If under treatment and the MAC is still possitive in sputum or bronchoscopy biopsy after 12 months that it is concidered treatment failure, and a new treatment plan is advised. What kind of Doctor is following up with you? I've been told that it is very difficult to get rid of, and VERY important to continue follow up with a Doctor that is well verced with this infection. What kind of symptoms are you having with yours? Where you also diagnosed with Bronchiectasis along with this infection? My understanding is your long term effects depends on what other underlying lung issues your diagnosed with at the time making you more suseptable to the infection and re-infection. MAC can potentionaly be cured with proper treatment.
I just had part of my lung removed because they thought it was cancer, and turned out to be Mycobacterium avium-intracellular infection.I had a mass that was 3 cm at the greatest dimention in my upper lobe of my right lung. But I also have a new "micro" nodule in my right lung as well and another nodule in my left lung that they are following. Im not under treatment as of yet. Im waiting for my follow-up with Pulm doc and for a CT scan to see what if anything is going on at this point to see if I need treatment.
Im still learning about all this myself but feel very confident in my Pulm doc who will continue to follow up with me, which I also feel is important.
I wish you luck, GOd bless,
Annette
