Hi all. I'm posting this for my Nan who is 87. I'm hoping someone who has been in this situation will be able to offer some advice. :-)
Basically my Nan keeps getting chest infections. Literally one after the other. She's been on several different antibiotics which all had different effects. Some cleared up the infection only for it to come back less than a week later. Others nearly cleared it up, but left her with a mild chest infection that developed into a full blown one between 1-2 weeks later and the Doxycycline clears up the infection only for it to re-occur 2-4 days later.
My Nan has another chest infection. She's been on the nebuliser a few times, is wheezing and has a terrible phlegmy cough. She is also coughing up green and sometimes white phlegm. The GP isn't much help. All they do is hand out more antibiotics without investigating it properly. So we really need help here.
What can cause re-occurring chest infections? What tests should I ask the GP for?
I was thinking of a sputum test to make sure what we're dealing with and also a Xray.
