| Spot on lung...very worried
My mom is a 58 yr old, non-smoker, who is in relatively good health. She does suffer from diabetes (which is under control) and sleep apnea. She had severe asthma as a child and has had a few attacks within the past few years. She wears a CPAP at night (not regularly for the sleep apnea). In July 2008, she went to the cardiologist for a check up. He gave her a clean bill of health (no heart problems) except for a 9mm spot on her right lower lung. In Nov. 2008 he performed another chest x-ray and the spot was 13mm. He sent her to a pulmonologist just to make sure it was nothing. My mom just saw the pulmonologist a few days ago and he says that since it is not calcified he wants to send her for a PET scan. He says that because it is so small there shouldn't be anything to worry about but because it has grown he wants to make sure. My mother has had NO symptoms. Her father also had a spot on his lung for years and was a heavy smoker but it turned out to be nothing but a scar. Her sister has a spot on her lung and she's a non-smoker as well. I am a neverous wreck and thinking the worst case scenario. Can you give any insight was to what it could be other than big C.
