i'm 26 year old male, in good shape, eat healthy, no dairy, no gluten (allergic).. anyway, i haven't had to take antibiotics since cutting out those foods 3 years ago..
I"ve been able to beat all the bugs that have come after me..
anyway, in late february i got sick with a cough and stuffy head.. i got better with no meds in about a week or 2... i was good for a few days then my cough came back.. and it kept on for a while, then started getting worse..
i went to doc over weekend and got zythromax.. i took it and felt better but my cough did not completely go away.. the 5th day of antibiotics it got worse again.. 3 days later i went to doc again and she said i had pneumonia.. not a bad form.
I teach at a school by the way and another teacher had pneumonia a little while ago.. anyway, my mom got it too, i guess i brought it home to her.. anway, she gave me a shot of biaxin i think.. and put me on biaxin pills.. i'm on my last week of pills and i seem to have hit a plateau..
my cough is better, but its not going away.. its staying around to where if i breath deep i can he the phlegm in there.. I DONT have to cough that much unless i force it, but the junk is still down there.
I'm kind of worried, because i've never had anything hang on this long and be sick this long.. I must add that when i first got sick i was taking an anti parasite (Alinia) and was also taking Ketotefin (antihistamine) for food allergies.. not sure if that lowered my immune system..
but i need HELP! how do i get rid of this!? anything i can do? please help!
My Dr. has told me you can't catch pneumonia. It is like a kidney infection, you just get it, you can't catch it.
I had pneumonia a couple of yrs ago, not knowing that I had it until I started running fever. I did not have a cold either.a couple of wks into it I started coughing really bad. It did take a while for it to go away. You will probably need to start getting the pneumonia shot now, which is good for 10 years. This is just my experience.
nothing you really can do. and if you had viral pneumonia, YES, it is spread easily! i've had pneumonia for the last 5 weeks and can't get rid of it. been on like 5 different antibiotics and still so much trouble.
If this doesn't clear up, Maybe you need to see a pulmonologist if your doc is not one; maybe they need to culture the phlegm to see what is really causing it. Take care of yourself and don't let it become a chronic condition. Best wishes and good luck.
