I'm currently being treated for the Pseudomonas intravenously (bag and pump, IV in arm) with Cefepime for one hour twice a day 2-4 weeks. Also just found out about the Abscessus. Pulonary doc wants to watch that with lung scan and not treat it right away. He says treatment is difficult, both oral and IV in combination for several months (one place I read online said possibly a year??). Sharing information sure helps. NTM is an ongoing battle. Peggy |
I was diagnosed with NTM last year and was unsuccessfully treated with multiple TB & non-TB antibiotics (moxifloxacin, linezolid, clarithromycin). NTM specia was identified recently and it is M. Abscessus. Doc informs that response to the treatment for Abscessus in elderly (i m 60) is poor and there are side effects like deafness in its treatment. The treament involves oral & Intra-venus antibiotics.
* I'd appreciate response from those who have successfully treated abscessus NTM or are under treatment that does not involve IV antibiotic.
