If your pain is in your mid/upper back (lung area), it could be pleursy. I had the problem with pain breathing in. I didn't get a lung x-ray but one doctor said I needed one the other day, she said there could be something wrong with my lungs where I smoked for so long, but my PCP didn't think it was necessary, so I'm not going to worry about it. I don't know if pleursy is concerning and needs treatment or not. I didn't get anything done so ??
I guess my question is just a general one really. I think most of us go through this at some stage or other - but here goes...
Occasionally I find (usually after getting out of bed) that it is REALLY painful to take a deep breath. Like a sharp stabbing pain.
It doesn't stay around for long - maybe like 20 mins to an hour or so - and only happens when I try to take a DEEP breath, then it just goes!
Any ideas what the hell this is??
I'm not concerned by it but I am confused by it!
Get it checked out. I would have a lung function test to make sure your lungs are okay and follow any other advice your doctor may give for treatment. If you have pain breathing at all and even only happens once in a while, you need get it checked out. You should call your doc asap, write down the appointment and make sure you get your lungs tested, even if the doc don't recommend a test you can ask for it.
