I recently found out I have bacteria in my lungs. Blood was coming up in my mucus, it was mixed in so easy to tell it was from deep in my lungs. Long story short, I have for years now felt like I had a low grade fever all the time (without having a fever), have had shortness of breath, now have discoloration on my back (looks like bruising), my lungs hurt all the time. I went to the pulmonologist who put me on antibiotics as a first step, didn't get the results of the sputum culture until a few days later.......My question is this - I have been off the antibiotics now for a week and my lungs still hurt, I'm still winded and the bruising on my back is getting worse. My next appt isn't until the 10th. From what I've read this bacteria in my lungs is a pathogen and causes disease.....should I consider a trip to the ER if they can't get me in sooner.
What if any experience do any of you have with Bacteria in the lungs. And how serious could this be. I think I am questioning how quickly I should act given how long this has been going on and the progressive decline my health has taken.
Any experience is appreciated. I will be calling my doctor on Monday and will not hesitate to go to the ER if I feel I need to.
Thanks so much.
