Question copd with irregular heart rate

Hi all!!
I have had copd for 5 years and they first put me on oxygen this pass February as I was waking up at night with a warm sensation in my chest area and my heart rate would hit 150 to 200 oxygen level waydown and was hospitalized for several days. Still did not use oxygen during the day but always at night when I returned home. I would get this warm weird feeling etc dueing the day as well as at night with the oxygen. Finally went to ER where they took many tests including thyroid and all came back super including ekg. Went home with a heart monitor after which I was sent to a heart specialist as several of these episodes were caught on the monitor. Have been on blood pressure medication for 7 yrs with much success. Now the heart doctor said I had fast irregular heart beats on occassion changed my blood pressure med to one that contains also something for the heart. I have also startedusing my oxygen 24/7. However, I still am getting this warm weird sensation except now my heart rate will drop as low as 30 for second than go back up. So now I am dealing with a slow heart rate. The med he changed me to is DILTIAZEM. Plus my blood pressure level is now up inthe 140 to155 range whereas befor it was always in the 120 range. I am 77 years old and don't feel that the doctors are getting to my problem. Any feed back would be much appreciated! Gods Blessings to all!!

Re: copd with irregular heart rate

My dad also has copd, but is not on oxygen. He also had problems with his heart rate like you. It would be extremely high, then extremely low. He was given a pacemaker and has done great with it. He is now having other heart issues, but they seem controlled with medication. Check with your doctor about the need for a pacemaker. From what I understand it's a simple procedure that is done all the time. He is also in his 70's. Please keep me posted on how you are doing, good luck!
