So over the past 2 months ive had a chronic - increasing cough, and an increasingly difficult time breathing while laying down, and having my back up against anything seems to trigger some more difficulty. Went to urgent care today and x-ray and EKG both came back negative. I've had acid problems for a while... im only 19, but have had em since i was like 9.. and never had treatment for it. Do you think that could be causing it? Or could i have something like asthma and not know it??

Doing most any activity lately has brought me shortness of breath as well.

Acid reflux can definitely cause shortness of breath and feel like asthma. Worse if one has asthma.

Are you on any acid reducing meds..if so, which ones?

I would suggest you ask your doc to send you for breathing (pulmonary function) tests to see if anything else is going on...as well...did your doctor do blood tests?

Have you seen a gastroenterologist to do a scope down your esophagus to diagnose the extent of the reflux?

Have you been tested for allergies?

Did you recently have a cold?

Do you smoke? or are you around smoke?

If the symptom persist, go back to get a second xray.

It could be a starting pulmanary's edema too. I got in the past false xray reading for that.

The key that I read in your post is if you got difficulty when you lay down. The edema fluid just move, I had in my case to sleep with like 3-4 pillows to be able to sleep ok, and it's the Dr that pointed that fact to me.

It can be cold's too in your case or a acid's problem, as I dont want to afraid you with a new theory, but dont be afraid to ask a second xray is my tips there.

For me after some time my condition worsened, and the xray showed something. (2 weeks to be exact)
