Question

I have read many places that they are unsure if Lupus is Hereditary, and I am wondering if anyone knows any different. My mom had lupus when I was born. She was dignosed with it from my heart specialist the day I was born actually. I was taken premature due to Congential Full Heart Block that was passed on to me from my mother due to her lupus. I get tested about every other year for lupus per request of my heart specialist. I have not been tested in about 3 or 4 years now and I am wondering if this is something I should continue doing? Do I have legitamit (spelling sorry) reasons to get tested? Thank you!

Hi Vicki and welcome

Lupus can be hereditary that's for sure. I have heard of many mothers with Lupus that have children with it too. It's not a definite, but there is a risk for sure. Does your mom have problems with blood clots, or have miscarraiges? How about a stroke, mini stroke or leg clot (DVT)? Is she on a blood thinner? I am interested in your answer here.. and I will let you know why when you get back to me I think that if you are showing the symptoms of Lupus that it is worth getting looked at by a specialist. Perhaps it would be a good idea just to make sure. Take care!

Actually my mom passed away about 4 years ago due to lymphoma, caused from Immuran. She never had any sort of blood problems. She never had problems with stroke or anything of that nature. I hope that helps.
