Cool Fog Finally Lifted! A Few Quick Questions...

Hi Dana and All -
Finally my 'flare' dissolved itself Friday - for a good while hopefully (would be nice to get through Christmas without it!).

A few questions for Dana (or anyone else that would like to respond - feel welcome!) -
Does Lupus have any effect on inner ear? I have been off balance for the last few weeks and my ears are usuallly weird in the morning (like they are blocked).
I had a burst eardrum for no apparent reason earlier in the year.

Strangely enough since my brain fog/muscle fatigue has improved, my stomach has settled (not bloated) and I don't look like I'm five months pregnant any more.
The purple blotchy patches have gone from the back of my thighs, my back is no longer sore - nor are my kdneys aching (first time I have had that during a flare). So I am assuming it was all related.

Last week I had like a big electric shock feeling on one side of my neck (in the one spot every time, movement related) and cramps in the arch of my foot. I know that with the skin involvement my symptoms are more like lupus, but some of it sounds like MS as well. Would an MRI of the brain show any Lupus involvement, my last MRI was over three years ago (had brain and spine MRI).

Thanks so much for your help,

Gina
xx

Hi Gina!

Lupus can affect anything it really wants to. You may have some inflammation going on in your brain, so I think that having an MRI of your brain would be a great idea. can you get your GP to refer you for one? I really hope so. Remember when I talked about Antiphospholipid Syndrome? Sometimes those of us with APS can get dizzy, electrical shocks, etc. As for the cramps in the arches of your feet- are you on Prednisone? Even if your not, what those cramps can be from is lack of calcium! Isn't that crazy? Do you drink milk? Even if you do drink Milk, I recommend that you go and get a good calcium magnesium supplement. That is your body's way of telling you that your not getting enough calcium I bet that if you start taking the supplements than the cramps will disappear I am SO glad to hear that your symptoms are getting better!

Lupus CAN affect the inner ear, anywhere that can get inflamed will when you have Lupus. You might also have an inner ear infection. If it continues, please head to the doctor to get him to look in it You may have potatoes growing in there!! haha!! Take care

~Luv, Dana

Thanks Dana!

I've started on plaquenil, not prednisone though. I'm going to an eye surgeon on the 5th December, he might send me for an MRI - GP's are not authorised to order mRI's here it has to come from a specialist......
I'll have to get onto the calcium!
The spud (potato) industry may well suffer if I don't get these ears checked! I'd had enough last week and couldn't be bothered going to the Dr - but will get onto it this week, want to know what the 'cervical fluid' business was all about (showed up in my pelvic ultrasound).
My blood tests have come back o.k. so far - thinking of asking them to send to a different lab next time - I read a post by another Lupie regarding her blood tests being diluted and then re-tested - then showing positive. We're not that advanced here, I'm sure you guys are like 5 years ahead of us!!!

Cheers,
Hope you are well -

Gina

Hi Dana - just remembered a few years ago I had an abnormality in one of my 'IG' levels (IGG< IGM???) can't remember exactly - it was actually a test for coeliac disease, but you needed all three to be high, I only had one. I crossed checked the coeliac testing with Lupus testing and found high IG levels to be associated with APS - hmmm - don't you love how you have to piece all of this together yourself! Cheers!
