Test came back positive - Lupus Message Board

I recently went into my cardiologist since I had been feeling fatigue. He ran many tests including a Fana test since he noticed I had some of the symptoms. Today he called and told me my Fana test came back positive... What all does this mean? I have called to schedule an appointment with my moms old doctor as my cardiologist had recommended. I am just confused on what is going to happen next I guess.

Here is a bit of my past...
My mother was diagnosed with lupus the day I was born. She had the disease while carrying me. I ended up with a congenital full heart block from the lupus. My cardiologist actually diagnosed my mom with the disease. I have underwent surgery for the my heart problem and have had a pacemaker put in.
I have seen what systemic lupus can do and I must admit I am scared. I am 26 years old and my mother has passed away, can anyone give me some advice please.

Hi Vicki!

Was the test an ANA test instead of an FANA? Just checking.. I am unsure about the FANA if there is one! Since you have the family history for Lupus and symptoms it is worth getting looked at by a Rheumatologist. What are your symptoms? Have you been checked for Antiphospholipid Syndrome? It is a "sticky blood" disorder that can go wtih Lupus or occur on its own. I have a post about it on this board under "Neurological symptoms and possible Lupus? Please read!". The FANA test and the ANA test are the same. It was once called FANA (Flourescent Antinuclear Antibody), but was shortened to ANA.

I have an appointment with a rhuematologist on April 2nd. I am unsure what they will do from here but I do have an appointment.
