Do you have muscle pains/spasms with lupus or hughes?

Hi!
Does lupus and/or hughes affect your muscles? What about muscle spasms and/or pain?

Thanks
Leslie

I have muscle pain....what exacly do you mean by spasms, do you mean twitching or like a charlie horse? A charlie horse type pain is common with thyroid disease which goes hand in hand with other auto immune diseases.

Re: Do you have muscle pains/spasms with lupus or hughes?

Leslie,
I get LOTS and LOTS of spasms - mainly in my back and they get so strong, it can take my breath away. Hughes can DEFINITELY affect the muscles. I happen to have both lupus and APLS (Hughes). Hope this helps.

Re: Do you have muscle pains/spasms with lupus or hughes?

Leslie,

I had years of lower back spasms---would feel stiff as a board, then they'd hit. I've had very few since being on Plaquenil. I can't swear that's what helped, but it feels that way to me.

I'd tried all sorts of things prior, but nothing helped.

Take good care! Vee

Re: Do you have muscle pains/spasms with lupus or hughes?

Vee,
Now that you mention it, I realize that my spasms are nowhere near as frequent or severe since starting the Plaquenil last month. My whole body seems to function much more smoothly. Still taking off the weight, I am SO happy!! Talk to you soon.

Shari

Shari (Sampy123),

Good news! It's so good to read how the medication has been helping you. At long last, huh? Catch you later, Vee

I often get severe spasms in my back and with a flare, my muscles hurt in my arms and legs. I am not sure if it is from lupus or fibromyalgia as I suffer from both diseases.

Re: Do you have muscle pains/spasms with lupus or hughes?

Leslie, I posted before about spasms and I got the same responce. I was also thought to have MS. My spasms were like charlie horse type spasms. the thing I havn't seen here is someone who gets them in the same way I do. I get them in my jaw, hands, calves, neck, anywhere I have a muscle. It's strange and very painful. I can feel the muscle spasm when I touch it. The muscle bulges and gets very hard. sometimes its a muscle I didn't even know I had. My muscles also hurt all the time now. I also feel a numbness in my hands, feet and in the lower side of my spine. I have lost alot of strenth and my left leg dosn't work very well anymore. I was just wondering if you have experianced simular symptoms. I have not been dx yet but going to UCSD next month with a working dx of lupus- vasculitis When ever I think I know whats wrong something else comes along. I really think I have lupus but some things don't seem to jive. I have also had protein and blood in my urine at times, Shortness of breath, sun allergy, purpura, eyes sensitive to light, migraine auras, nausea, night sweats, adema, and I'm alway's tired. For the last month I have had a rash accross the bridge of my nose that expands to my cheeks. It also is on my forhead. The last symptom is when my gp said I needed a specialist. My blood test a year ago did not confirm lupus. I hope they figure this out soon. I feel so sick these days.

Re: Do you have muscle pains/spasms with lupus or hughes?

I almost think we are living parallel lives!

I have hORRID muscle spasms. . anywhere I have a muscle. And yes, you can feel the spasm when it balls up. It is SOOOOOO painful. And FATIGUE. . OMG! Did I mention the FATIGUE! My arms and legs feel so heavy. There are days where all I can manage is taking a shower.

Yes, I have the numbness too. In my hands and feet. . and sometimes my face.

I have horrid migraines. . and when I"m on my period. . I am useless! I can barely function. I feel soooo sick for the whole time. It's awful.

I also have had optic neuritis and a neurogenic bladder.
