Got test results...need help - Lupus Message Board

My husbands MRI was normal..Whew!!! His ANA was normal this time (even though he was sick as a dog at the time of the test). He did have a positive antihistone antibodies. In the past he has had a positive ANA and a borderline ANA. The doctor is supposed to call about what all this means....but what does this mean? We feel the worst thing could be a big, fat "we don't know what is wrong" from the doctor.

Negative ANA and Positive Antihistone antibodies...What does that mean?

Hi jariusmom,

You may well be right about the Dr.s. I suppose we mustn't be too hard on them, after all they are just human like the rest of us. Personally, I would rather have a Dr. tell me he has no idea what's going on than pretend he does and treat me for something else.

as it turns out, they didnt even do the ANA test this time because of all the past possitives. I just assumed when they said the other tests came back neg. the ANA was included.

Has there been any improvement in the cognitive area? Is he still getting confused alot? Did he test postiive for antiphospholipid syndrome and if so, did you try the coumadin?

Thanks so much for asking. He had a three day hospital stay getting 1000mgs of Prednisone. Major improvements. We have a call into the doctor regarding the APS. We also found out his mother has some sort of blood disorder and has had two DVT's and Two pulmonary emboli. We certainly are concerned and feel APS may be part of the problem. The test for this came up "very high" as per the doctor. He said they usually don't give a firm diagnosis until at least one blood clot. YIKES.... seems like being proactive is a better coarse. I bet they will go with coumadin. I'll keep the board posted. Thanks!!
