Has anyone heard of this, or have this??? The blood "thickens" and causes mini-strokes, so I have to stay on a blood thinner.

I am wondering what other people have learned about their diagnoses???

Also, is this lupus related?? I read online that this syndrome is kind of like a child of lupus. I didn't know if it meant that I would "grow up" into SLE??

Hi Sobs!

It is called antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS or APLS). There is a sticky post on this board that tells all about it. Go check it out and if you have questions after that, I'll be happy to answer them. I do have this disorder, as well as SLE.

Well, I'm living proof that you can get aps BEFORE lupus. I have both.

Thanks for all of your posts. I am curious...........does anyone know if an INR machine is available to the public yet, or if anyone's insurance has paid for one. I am really very sick, and only get out about 3 or 4 times a year, for doctor appointments. And, I have to go extra if my blood is too "thin or thick". When I get out, I usually have to go to bed for at least a week to recuperate. So, I was wondering about the INR testing machine.

Hello,

I have SLE and Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome. I get a lot of great information from a site called APS Friends and Support.

I have read posts from several people with the machine to check your blood at home. Those who have APS find that the machine is not accurate for them. I am not sure of the reason but more than one person has said they can't use the machine with their APS.
