Re: what do u think?

Hi, Jennifer. Lupus is not, strictly speaking, hereditary. But certainly the odds go up for it & other autoimmunes if close blood relatives have had it.

Also, I think it can affect people of any age. For example, neo-natal lupus is the type that can be "passed" to an newborn. And it can affect people over 50, but perhaps it doesn't pop up "new" post-50 too often...

Have you discussed how you've been feeling with your family? Gone for a complete physical & discussion with a trusted dr.? Made sure your dr. knows your family medical history, too? While what you mention could turn out to be something else (like mono, for instance?), I think you should go & get checked out. And I also hope you post again with updates. Thinking of you & sending best wishes! Sincerely, Vee

Re: what do u think?

HI,
I would make an appt with your dr and explain the family history and have him run the blood work for it. That way they can start to rule it in or out. Only you know how you feel, but they need to know and if you have a dr you can talk to, express your feelings and let them know that you want to have it checked. Hope this helps

Re: what do u think?

Hi Jennifer -

I hope by now you have tried to schedule an appointment with your MD. This is not something you want to allow to go too far without being treated. Unfortunately yes the disease can be hereditary however, my aunt is the only other family member that has what I have. SLE Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Raynauds and many other. It's important though that you get on the right track, the not eating a lot can really effect how you are going to feel overall. I know when I don't eat well everything starts to hurt worse. I do as you said get chest pains, rashes which in my case is due to Rosacea. I have severe arthritis due to the Lupus and Fibro symptoms.. Although you want to get your thyroid checked. I have a Hypoactive thyroid which often causes me to get severe sore throats etc.. Have you had your tonsils pulled? I am 27yrs old and just got them pulled this year it has helped my sore throats tremendously.. As for meds to talk to your doctor about there are many things that can treat these autoimmune diseases.. The most mild for Lupus is Plaquenil, also you might want to ask if a pain medicine would be ideal for your situation so that you can function on a daily basis. I have taken both Percocet and Methadone both work the same in my case.. but is best to have monitored by a pain specialist so that you don't over do it.. Please feel free to ask if you have further questions. I truly believe you shouldn't wait any longer to get checked out. In addition to seeing an MD its a good idea to see a Rhumetologist and an Endocrinologist. Good luck.
