burning rash on chest..any relief out there?

So recently I've aquired a burning rash on my chest. I've tried OTC cortizone creams but it doesn't help. Is there anything else out there that might give me some relief? Thank you ..Kathryn

Re: burning rash on chest..any relief out there?

Hi, Kathyrn. Do you know what this burning rash IS? Have you seen a dermatologist?

Over decades & various types of rashes, I never had success with OTC cortisone ointments. (I found out much later that my most common lesions were typically steroid-resistant, anyway.) I think some of the OTC's are very strong & can thin your skin & irritate it even further.

And are you keeping sun OFF your rash?

Good luck with this! Sincerely, Vee

Oh well thanks ...I'll just give up on the steriod creams then. I guess I could have gotten some sun although not intentionally. We've had sunny and warm days now for weeks. I doubt I'll go see a dermatologist as my insurance won't cover it and I really don't see a Dr. unless I feel like I'm on my death bed. A rash sure wouldn't qualify .... thanks for your thoughts...Kat

Re: burning rash on chest..any relief out there?

Kathryn, I always bought the strongest OTC cortisone creams, thinking stronger was better, but some burned more than they helped. Maybe a milder formulation? Or something that helps itching but isn't cortisone-based, like aloe, Aveena, or Benadryl?

When I started getting lupus rashes, though, not knowing what they were, I used OTC cortisone creams to make them fade; then a handful of dermies had me try extremely costly prescription formulations---but none made the lesions fade. My lupus rashes didn't itch, so I was lucky in that regard.

Good luck! Bye, from Vee
