Lupus and weight gain question

Hi all, in the past few months I have gained about 15 lbs with no apparent reason! I have recently been diagnosed with Lupus but have not been put on any medications. Why am I gaining weight? I am not eating more...so frustrated.
Thanks,
Sophie 56

Re: Lupus and weight gain question

Worked just the opposite for me, I lost about 30 pounds. Didn't change my eating habits either, they checked my thyroid, normal, did a colonoscopy, normal, the only thing they could find was my B12 was low. Took 7 shots so far and I do feel better, but haven't gained any weight back. I'm too old to lose too much, look like one of those wrinkled dogs!!!

Re: Lupus and weight gain question

Sophie, Like Watoozie wrote, I too believe weight LOSS is more common than GAIN. Hopefully your rheumie will look at water retention, thyroid function, etc. You have an appt. with your rheumie soon, right? If you've noticed areas where your body has changed dramatically, you should point those out. Let us know how you make out, OK? Best wishes, Vee

Re: Lupus and weight gain question

Thanks girls, I did read that unexplained weight loss or gain but I am the only person I actually know who gained everyone else lost. I could stand to loose the 15 lbs.

Re: Lupus and weight gain question

Sophie - Just wanted to let you know that I gained too! Also, with all my meds that list weight loss as a common side effect, I never lost anything, only gained! So, you're not alone...

Re: Lupus and weight gain question

I'm just diagnosed too - put on 15 lbs last year - I ate more - hungry all the time, I don't know if it is related to Lupus or not, am also (probably) menopausal or pre-menopausal

I joint weight watchers and have now lost 5 of them and feel good about eating healthier - that can never hurt, right?

Re: Lupus and weight gain question

I am menopausal and started hormones so I thought that might be it. My obgyn said the pills he gave me did not cause weight gain. The only light of Lupus if there could be one for me would be weight lose ....but no I gain. Maybe I'll try weight watchers. Thanks for the info and tips all.
