Just saw your post. I am too on Wellbutrin and have been previously being diagnosed with MCTD/lupus. I started taking it for depression a year before I was diagnosed with the lupus. I am not sure if the depression was caused by the lupus (my doc says it might have) because I had been fine or at least stable until then. She said to stay on it because it helps with the lupus symptoms. I have never heard of it triggering a flare, but I am curious if anyone else take its too and has had any problems. Take care.
Funny you should mention that. I work in a VA clinic. The one doctor there thinks I have drug-induced Lupus DUE TO Wellbutrin! (I was dx with Sjogren's) When I asked my doctor, he poo-pooed it because it's not one of the drugs listed. But when I see him again I'm going to ask for Effexor, like the other dr suggested

hello there ... been reading interesting theories re: depression being linked to lupus (short term memory issue & i cannot quote the source - sorry)
Scarily ... doc had me on trepaline and doc was perscribing additional anti-dep so i requested 'welbutrin' ... only a 3 month course (seems lucky me) ... i was thinking of doing another course to quit smoking again ... having major flares now anyway may as well get something positive out of this (other than a positive ANA test ... lol)
I've just been diagnosed with discoid lupus and SLE. I've had skin problems that flaired up quite severly about a year ago and was misdiagnosed for some time until my hair started falling out. Went to specialist at the University of Virginia had biopsy of scalp lesion resulting in positive findings. Started me on plaqeneil for about a week and trying to get a grasp on this and the lifestyle changes coming my way.
I'm interested in the DIL as I am on tegretol (seizures) but have been for 27 years; however about a year ago was put on welbutrin which I am now wondering if this could be related???
I did ask doctor about tegretol, as that is one drug listed, which they felt probally wasn't. However, I'm on such a low dose that I'm stopping it to see if I see any benefit. I do feel seizures coming on and my seizure activity has been minimal at best (1 in past several years).
I am really interested in the welbutrin aspect....anyone have any comments?
I'm so concerned about hair loss to, I see many different answers and responses about this coming back.
This is interesting. My sister was dx with Lupus in Sept 08. That summer, she tried to quit smoking by being prescribed WELLBUTRIN!!! Shortly after taking this med, she had her first flare, which led to a definitive diagnosis of Lupus. She was fine prior to taking the anti-depressant. I am POSITIVE it "brought it out" so to say.... I actually think there have been some studies about this link....specifically to Wellbutrin.
