Diagnosing Lupus - Lupus Message Board

I have many symptoms that are associated with lupus. My question is this: Is a blood test the only way to see if one has lupus? If the blood test is negative, does that absolutely rule out lupus?

Blood tests are only one way to Dx lupus. I didn't get positive blood results until I suffered from Lupus for 10 years or more. I had several criteria, but, the blood work didnt show the information. However, I did have other blood work that was abnormal. Remember, it's not important whether you have a Diagnosis for Lupus or whatever or not. What is important is that your symptoms are treated properly. They can say in your charts "Suspected Lupus or SLE", but, as long as you are on the right course of treatment... a dx may come later. Lupus is like that... sometimes others won't get a dx for 15 years or more.

I suffered for many years before I was diagnosed. Only you know your body, please don't do as I did, as I am now paying The penalty with severe damage to both my kidneys, and my thyroid. Their are as kathyrn said other criteria's of Lupus. Do as I eventually did and bug the doctor's until they sit up and listened to you. You need to start the correct medication as soon as poosible. DON'T DELAY... all the best
