New to site- daughter has lupus - Lupus Message Board

Hello everyone. My 15 year old daughter was just dx with lupus. The problem is she refuses to stay out the sun. The docs told her this is why she has the skin problem, but she won't listen. Anyone have any sugesstions. She is very stubborn!
Anything would be helpful.....

Karen, if she doesn't and has signs of skin problems, they may get worse. She will find out for herself and unfortunately she will have to go through the consequences. Have you tried to print up articles about the importance of staying out of the sun from the internet, for her to read. Maybe the book by Dr. Daniel Wallace would help for her to have. This way, she can read it in a book for herself. What about haveing her visit some of the lupus forums and lurk around and see what others are saying.

Unfortunately your daughter will soon be finding out that her doctor was correct. The sun will definitely give her some trouble. Long before I was diagnosed with lupus, I noticed that being in the sun would cause me pain. I thought for years that it was just because I had light complection, but I suppose it was the lupus. Your daughter should always wear polarized sunglasses when she is outside in the sun. I can't go anywhere without mine.

It seems that your 15 year old is out of control, but she will soon learn that lupus will be the winner and if she doesn't listen to her doctor, she will regret it in years to come because she will have lots of health problems.

Thanks for your replies. I do believe she is out of control. She doesn't even want to know anything about lupus at all. She even denies she has it. It is so depressing when your hands are tied. Thanks again for your info...
